Q)
Chapel
at Piana Romana
Piana
Romana is a hill northeast
of Pietrelcina.
It is full of vineyards and old elm trees.
It is about 4 km from the main crossroad and can be reached also
by walking through the "Cammino del Rosario".
From here, one can observe the old part of the town on one side and,
on the West Side,
a view of the southern Apennine Mountains.
It
is a meeting place for thousands of pilgrims,
especially during Sunday Mass,
which
is celebrated now in the new
Aula
Liturgica
"Padre Pio"
and once in a small,
but suggestive Chapel.
The
building plans for this chapel began in 1958,
because
of the interest of Padre Pio's friend
Mercurio Scocca.
The site used to be a small straw hut
where Padre Pio would seek shelter
from the sun and collect his thoughts in prayer.
